2009 HIGHLIGHTS: |
Fur Free Friday
Fur Free Friday is an anti-fur event held on the Friday after Thanksgiving, which is the United States' busiest shopping day before Christmas. The Humane League of Baltimore, DARTT (Defending Animal Rights Today & Tomorrow), Anti-Fur Society, RabbitWise, and Compassion for Animals joined forces on November 27th in downtown Chevy Chase and DC for a global day of action for fur-bearing animals. We protested several fur-selling shops and department stores, and handed out our newly designed "Cruelty In Fashion" full-color brochures to passers-by. To download a PDF of our brochure, click here. |
DC VegFest
Thanks to everyone who stopped by our table at DC VegFest, organized by the Vegetarian Society of D.C. and Compassion Over Killing. The festival took place on the George Washington University campus. It was a beautiful day of outreach, friends, and delicious vegan food! |
 Vegan Bake Sales
Where can you find vegan doughnuts, banana chocolate chip muffins, oatmeal raisin cookies, and smiling faces? At the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale, Charm City style! The Humane League of Baltimore participated in this international effort to spread vegan sweets and compassion for animals by holding several vegan bake sales at the Station North Flea Market. Thanks to everyone who indulged in delicious sweets, we raised funds to help the Eastern Shore Sanctuary and Education Center settle in to their new nest in Vermont! |
Leafleting at Baltimore Fashion Week
HLB leafleted every day during Fashion Week in Baltimore, to speak out against the use of animals for clothing. We handed out our "Cruelty in Fashion" brochures to inform and engage attendees and passers-by about the suffering of animals killed for fur, wool, leather and down, and the need to choose compassionate, non-animal alternatives!
